Metrolinx has released the Initial Business Case for the Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE) to Richmond Hill and confirmed plans to bring two subway stations into Richmond Hill. Bridge Station will conveniently connect with GO train, GO bus, and local transit service including VIVA Bus Rapid Transit. High Tech Station will serve future communities envisioned within the Richmond Hill Centre Area. This marks a significant milestone for this major infrastructure project and a pivotal moment for our community. The subway extension is a foundation piece in our bold vision for Richmond Hill Centre. It will help connect our residents and businesses easily to opportunities across the GTHA and bring new investment into Richmond Hill.
The Metrolinx Initial Business Case for the Yonge North Subway Extension features four new subway stations in an approximate 8km extension from Finch Station to Richmond Hill Centre – two of the four stations (Bridge Station and High Tech Station) will be in Richmond Hill.
- The Yonge North Subway Extension will cut commute times in Richmond Hill and York Region by giving customers one seamless subway ride between Richmond Hill and Downtown Toronto.
- The two stations and overnight train parking in Richmond Hill will be above ground, providing better transit connections and positioning nearby communities to grow while reducing disruption to our roads and services.
- More than half of Richmond Hill Centre residents will be within walking distance of the subway by 2041.
- Richmond Hill Centre will be a place where all forms of transportation come together – a hub of activity at the heart of the GTHA. Our vision will see Richmond Hill Centre become a world-leading mixed use, pedestrian friendly urban growth centre that is conveniently connected to major growth areas across the GTA.
