Three Cheers for Summer!

Summer is here and, as my son said to me at this time last year, “The summer is laid out ahead like the white line down the centre of the highway” (I actually think he borrowed that line from Stuart MacLean from Vinyl Cafe on CBC)
It is with great pleasure that I announce that Town staff, the Richmond Hill Village BIA, and I, have finalized plans for a Farmers’ Market for the Village Core in July, August and September on Saturdays starting July 5th. This market will provide one more reason to get outside in the beautiful summer months and come to our Historic Village Core (details below). After shopping for farm fresh produce, unique handicrafts, and taking in the market entertainment and ambiance, why not head over to one of our great Village Core restaurants or enjoy a delicious gelato across the street from the theatre.
Richmond Hill is alive in the summer months and we invite everyone to enjoy all that we have to offer as a Town. I would also invite you to join us for the Concerts in the Park at Mill Pond Park starting with our very own Kevin Mills on July 10th (details below). Nothing could be finer than a free concert in one of our premiere parks on a warm summer evening. We are just putting the finishing touches on the west parking lot at Mill Pond Park, but don’t hesitate to ride your bike to the concert if you can.
Finally, speaking of bikes, I would invite you to go for a bike ride on our extensive networks of bike trails and routes here in our Town. There is an excellent map of all trails and parks available at community centres, libraries and from our Town Offices at 225 East Beaver Creek Drive, called “A Guide to Parks and Trails in Richmond Hill”. This document outlines all of the bike trails and parks in our Town (it is also available online (click here).
Finally I look forward to all the upcoming festivals in Town starting this weekend (Saturday June 14) for Heritage Village Day on Yonge Street. After this I look forward to our annual Canada Day Celebrations (click here), and then later in July Ribfest (click here), and Tastes of the Hill in August (click here).
Get out and enjoy our great Town of Richmond Hill this summer and don’t forget to meet me at the Farmers’ Market on July 5th!
Sincerely,
David West
