In March last year I moved a motion to create a Declaration to a Healthy Environment in Richmond Hill. The motion was in support of the David Suzuki Foundation’s Blue Dot Movement. Since this time the Blue Dot chapter in Richmond Hill has grown and many more citizens have signed a petition to recognize the right to a healthy environment in our country. Below is a message from the Blue Dot organization explaining more about the organization, the petition, and the work they are doing for the betterment of the environment in our community and communities across the country.
Message from The Blue Dot Organization
Around the world over 110 countries recognize their citizens right to live in a healthy environment but not Canada. Let’s change that. Richmond Hill council unanimously passed a municipal declaration recognizing its citizens’ rights to a healthy environment but municipalities alone cannot protect the environment. Join together with Richmond Hill Bluedot to create a federal environmental bill of rights and to strengthen the existing Ontario Environmental Bill of Rights.
