Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great New Year. For those that celebrate various holiday traditions at this time of year I hope you were able to spend restful time with family and friends!

A proud tradition in Richmond Hill, and one that finds its home in Ward 4, is the Richmond Hill Winter Carnival. This celebration of winter in Richmond Hill has been going on for forty eight years. Many thousands of families have enjoyed all that the Winter Carnival has to offer over the years. Although this winter has so not been looking particularly “wintery” so far, our Winter Carnival Committee has been working tirelessly since the summer to bring the 48th Annual Richmond Hill Winter Carnival to life again this year. There will be lots of family oriented activities for all to enjoy. Whether you will be attending your 48th or your 1st Winter Carnival you can look forward to celebrating winter in our community on February 5th, 6th and 7th this year (see article below for more details).

Another annual activity that takes place at this time of year is the process leading to approval of the Richmond Hill Operating Budget.  I would welcome your input on the budget. I have included an article below in this newsletter to help you give this input.

PS. The banner photo is a collection of Winter Carnival buttons collected over the years by my family. Things have changed (our mascot Ookpik would never drive a snowmobile without a helmet anymore!) but the one thing that has remained the same is the great family fun to be had at the Winter Carnival!
