Earth Day / Pitch In Week 2014

Had a great Earth Day today. I spent time with a great group of students from Norval Morrisseau High School cleaning up the Village Core. A number of bags of litter were enthusiastically gathered by this great group of students. Later I had the pleasure of attending an Earth Day celebration and tree planting with a number of school aged kids (including Langstaff SS my alma mater) and a group of kids from Bayview Hill Elementary School among others. It is great to see such enthusiasm shown towards our environment.

I thought going in to this celebration that there may be less enthusiasm for the environment since I was a school teacher back in the 1990’s. This concerned me because clearly if we are to make progress in saving our planet we need to have every generation, including the younger generation, fully engaged. It seems that I may have been wrong.
