Character in Richmond Hill

Compassion, Courage, Fairness, Honesty, Inclusiveness, Initiative, Integrity, Optimism, Perseverance, Respect and Responsibility.

I had the pleasure again this morning to attend the Mayor’s Character in Business Breakfast sponsored by the Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce. I always enjoy this event, as we talk about the work that the Character Community Foundation does in our community. I believe that Richmond Hill has always lived with character traits such as Compassion, Fairness, Respect, Honesty, and Inclusiveness and we continue to do so.

Character attributes like this are evident in our community each and every day but the Character Community Foundation has been able to raise awareness of these attributes and the value that they hold for us as a community, by bringing them to the forefront in discussions like today’s breakfast meeting. By talking specifically about these various attributes we develop a greater awareness and appreciation of the terms and their meanings in our everyday lives.

The focus of the Character in Business Breakfast is promoting these attributes in our business community. I also appreciate that the Character Community Foundation provides a forum to teach the concepts and vocabulary of strong character attributes to our school children through the Foundation’s work with the public and catholic school boards in York Region.

Striving for positive character in all of our dealing with others is important to our Town. Iam proud to support the work of the Character Community Foundation.

The mandate of the Character Community Foundation is to raise awareness of and educate the public, private, and non-profit sectors about character development.

By nurturing positive character attributes and enhancing York Region as a desirable place to live, learn, work, and play the Character Community Foundation of York Region and it’s volunteers and leaders from the community, government, education, and business sectors are committed to making York Region a Character Community.

The character message speaks to everyone of all backgrounds, faiths, and cultures.

A Character Community is one in which members of the community work together to nurture positive character attributes. It requires a shift in thinking to a focus on ethical attitudes and behaviours that lead to achievement and success.
