Richmond Hill – The City of Richmond Hill has been recognized for its sound approach to public finances with the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the City’s 2024 Budget.
As a recipient, the City of Richmond Hill’s 2024 Budget Book is recognized as an example of excellence in government budget best practices throughout North America. To receive this budget award, Richmond Hill had to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentations. These guidelines assessed how well the City’s 2024 Budget Book served as a policy document, a financial plan, an operational guide and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated by the GFOA as “proficient” in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
The GFOA is a non-profit international association representing more than 20,000 government finance professionals throughout Canada and the United States. The association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award encourages governments to prepare and issue budget documents of the highest quality. This ensures citizens are fully informed of the administration’s policies, corporate initiatives and financial plans.
Achieving this award reflects Richmond Hill’s long-standing commitment to transparency and effective management of resources. The City’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027 further solidifies that commitment with a focus on making decisions that are evidence based and data driven to enable the City’s long term financial sustainability, as well as social, environmental and economic sustainability.
