Statement from Mayor West on the Passing of
Former Richmond Hill Councillor David Bishop

On behalf of the City of Richmond Hill and Members of Council, I offer my sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of David Bishop. In honour of his passing, I have requested that City Hall flags be lowered to half-mast. During his life, David was deeply committed to his career, his community, and his family. Richmond Hill was fortunate to have his steady leadership when he served on Council from 1997 to 2000 and then again on the Richmond Hill Library Board as Chair of the Board of Trustees for almost 10 years.

As a most deserving recipient of both the Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Medal in2002 and the Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, David’s many contributions to the charities and organizations he supported will be his lasting legacy.

To David’s family, Marcia, Jason, Graham, and loved ones, we extend our sincere condolences. I hope that knowing David made such a positive impact in so many peoples’ lives may bring you a measure of peace and comfort in the days and weeks ahead.

Godspeed on this final journey, David.
