Statement from Mayor West
In Solidarity with the Israeli Community

RICHMOND HILL – On behalf of Richmond Hill City Council, I extend our thoughts and support to the people of Israel.

Terrorism and violence have no place in civilized discourse and over the weekend,
Canadians watched in horror as the attacks against innocent civilians unfolded and escalated.

Richmond Hill prides itself on fostering an inclusive community that welcomes and celebrates the diversity of our population. We acknowledge that free speech is a right and freedom, but hate speech and harassment cannot and will not be tolerated. Hatred in any and all forms is unacceptable and we cannot accept any action that limits our residents’ ability to live their lives with freedom from discrimination.

We actively condemn these acts of violence against civilians. Our thoughts and prayers go to all those impacted by these acts of terror.

The City of Richmond Hill, the third most populous city in York Region, has a population of over 200,000. www.RichmondHill.ca
